Hello,
It appears I am an official "noob" ;D.
My name is Kimberley and I have only recently begun collecting Sindy dolls.
So I have much to learn and many questions also.
I got started on being interested in Sindy again after many years, too many to mention, when my mum visited me at Christmas.
Somehow it was mentioned about a present I was given when I was 11 years old, which was a Sindy Doll. I proudly pulled her out of a drawer in my bedroom, I am so proud I still had her.
Anyway, poor Sindy is naked and she has had a major haircut, like all girls, I wanted to be a hairdresser, lol.
I said to my mum, it would be nice to have her back in her original form and surely I would be able to find one just like her on ebay. Hey, you can buy everything on ebay.
Hmm, then the digging to find out exactly which Sindy I had. I did it, and located her on a Sindy website, matched up her body markings and outfit that I remembered. Yay, too easy.
Nooooo, I cannot find my doll anywhere.
My original Sindy is a 1973 Funtime Sindy, with a striped all in one shorts outfit with a white wrap around skirt.
And from this point, it was research, hunt avidly everyday in hope of finding a perfect match.
And now I have a few dolls, some new in box, a lot of preloved dolls and clothes. I also purchased the History of Sindy Book which is a great guide for a beginner.
And then, I found you guys. Wonderful, a forum just on Sindy, I can talk to others about my passion.
Probably a long post, but I wanted to say hello to all.

Welcome Kimberley Great to see a new Sindy collector and all the way from Oz. Pity you haven't found your original Sindy doll yet but I think she shall turn up. I have found that with the 60's Sindys. You don't see them for years and then they just turn up one after another. The clothes too. I think you will enjoy yourself here on the forum. Loads of info and great to have a good read through the posts. Maybe it might give you inspiration to bring your original Sindy back to her former glory. xxx

Welcome aboard Kimberley ;D So good to have you with us! Where in Australia are you from? I have several relatives who are living in Melbourne just now. You've joined at the right time as this year is a big year in Sindy History - in September she will be 50 and there are plans afoot by Pedigree Dolls & Toys (UK) in colaboration with Tonner Dolls (US) to bring back Sindy for sale in the Stores, so far we hear there might be 14 different Sindys on offer eventually... That will be amazing when it happens.... we're waiting on hearing about release dates just now Facebook is abuzz with it at the moment Enjoy your time visiting and posting here and I hope you make loads of new Doll Collector Friends at the same time Luv Anita xxx We also talk about other dolls here too - in the Other Dolls section mainly, so it's not just Sindy we talk about - it's now progressed to ALL kinds of Doll - we have found that most members have more than one make of doll that they like to collect, so if you have Barbies or other dolls, we do talk about them too, but primarily the Forum is focused on Sindy as she is the doll most of us had first in our lives. Do have a good read of all the different Sections of the Forum - there is a lot of information there (over six or seven years worth) that you might find interesting and some of it just might answer some of your questions!

And I believe I found on ebay UK my original 1973 doll, she looks like mine, even down to the hair chopped off. So really she is no better than what I have, but it gives me hope that eventually one in really good condition will find its way to ebay or some other site eventually. www.ebay.com.au/itm/181080892260?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649This doll is nearly identical to mine, even down to the missing finger on one of her hands. So I could not even buy this one for parts. Keep hunting, and need to be patient. I am a firm believer that all comes to you eventually, just a matter of time!

Hi Anita, I am a friendly sort, so don't mind me yaffling on, this is me. I am from Tasmania, that little state that sits underneath Australia and the State of Victoria, which is where Melbourne is. We are a completely seperate island to the rest of Australia and on our own down here. Haha, tazzie devil country we are best known for in the world. Ah, the Tonner Dolls, I found out about them about a month ago, and I sure hope it happens that they do release them. The 1972 Trendy Girl is a real beauty to start with, and I think this is their first one slated for release. I signed up on their site for updates and actually asked a question regarding shipping on these to Australia and UK, but alas no response It seems that they ship to the USA, Canada and France, so I am left to wonder how those in Australia and the UK will be able to acquire these dolls when released. I feel that surely they would not exclude these 2 countries as this is where Sindy originated, and a lot were purchased in Australia having close ties with UK. And I am certain that especially in the UK there would be a lot of collectors and people with fond memories of Pedigree Sindy, so I have my fingers crossed that somehow we will be able to purchase these dolls. If only they would answer the question, but maybe it is in the too hard basket at the moment, and they are unable to. I have been reading a lot of the posts here, especially keen to know how to wash Sindy's hair, knowing that human shampoo and conditioner does not do the trick. I am not sure, but there seems to be mention of combing the hair and adding fabric softener to her hair, then covering it in plastic for a day or two. I have a few used Sindy's that their hair is a bit frizzy and would like to return it to something like it used to be when they were new, as in soft and shiny. I shall keep reading, I am sure I will find out more as time goes on.

Hello! So exciting to hear you still have your original doll.... and how quickly you've grown your collection too Congrats and welcome to the forum! - Gaspode Thanks for the welcome Gaspode. It is good that I have my original Sindy, I shall love her forever. Do you know I was really annoyed and somewhat sad when my mum gave me the Sindy Funtime for Christmas in 1973. I had asked for a Barbie Doll, well........ And then I unwrapped what I thought for sure was a Barbie doll, and was not very happy. Who was this doll I got called Sindy? And one of the reasons why I wanted Barbie was she had boobs. Hmm, this Sindy was nearly flat chested...what a letdown. So she was very unloved to start with, and maybe that is why I chopped her hair off out of anger. I also remember another outfit I got with her at the time which was the Cosy Coat Outfit, ah another one for replacement at some time. I was from a family of 6 children and we did not have a lot of money and I suspect that Sindy was cheaper to buy at the time than Barbie, which is probably why I was given her. Now, I could not be more pleased though, and I love her innocent look of the girl next door and she is not made out to be some glamorous superstar, well the Pedigree Sindy anyway. Funny, how as you grow up and get older how different your outlook is and you can actually make sense of why things happened. Guess it happens to all of us.

I have the same doll and think she is gorgeous. Mine also needs a reroot, not because she went to a lousy hairdresser but because she is missing a lot of hair plugs on the side and back. Her hair is also quite frizzy which so I have read is quite an issue with these dolls. Bad quality hair. Did you know that there were 2 versions of this doll. See link. Scroll down to the bottom. www.petradolls.co.uk/sindy_information_page_1970s_dolls.htmI am from the 1960's era and got my first Sindy around 1966 I think together with Paul. I am originally from across the ditch.........NZ but live in Holland now. I still have my original Paul and Tuppence doll. Sindy is long gone, let my daughter play with her when she was young and she wrecked her. I now have 3 other 60's Sindys to replace her. Good luck with your doll hunt.

Welcome Kimmi, Hope you enjoy the forum and find out what you need to. I saw your post on the Tonner blog and I'm wondering about how we'll get the new Trendy girl too ( assuming we want her when we see her! ) I know I'm getting impatient to see what they've made her like. Apparently Pedigree will be launching a collection of anniversary Sindy's too. "Vintage Sindy" on Facebook has started putting some info & photo's of what these might be like up on It's page. Laurie =:0)
