A couple of years ago i was on Dickinsons Real Deal selling some vintage bags I'd found a car boot sale. Well this week the same tv company sent me a letter to say they were in my local area and inviting me to come along.
I scrounged round the house and dug out some albums that date back to the first world war and before , inside are regimental stamps, signatures and paintings and poems done during that time. I knew I wasn't going to make my fortune but with the film Warhorse out now I thought people might find them interesting....
I got there early and ended up behind David during the takes for the introductions etc and in close ups of the queue. An elderly lady next to me in the queue had a doll (a porcelain one) which I could tell was only about 20 years old but I didn't like to say anything as she thought it was a treasure and she'd been waiting there 2 1/2 hrs. Her friends had a print and another a brass urn...
Anyhow, the lady with the doll was told it was modern and when she asked if it was worth anything was told to sell it on a boot sale she might get £2 for it! The fella with the brass urn was told to scrap it for a £5 and the print wasn't worth anything. Felt sorry for him it was massive and he'd dragged it all round the hall. One guy was going mad as the valuers told him his two plaques were only worth £20 each and he'd paid £200 for them.
I got to the desk and told him how I'd come by the albums (my parents used to drag me to auctions and to keep me quiet they'd buy me a cheap box and I'd wanted the albums) and he brought over the auctioneer who said they were worth £80-£120! There was a bit of an argument as the valuer didn't think they were worth that much (he thought £50-£80) so I said I was fine with the lower value.
Next thing I know I was on a podium with a dealer (got Henry) and I dealt at £60. Dh thought I'd ripped him off LOL. Said he felt like giving him a £10 refund . The show will be aired in June/July.
Oh and the first show I was on will be repeated on March 1st if anyone wants to watch. I have short hair in this one in the next latest one I have long hair.
