We've been given a beautiful new kittie who we've named Myah. We didn't realise when we got her how feral she was and are in the process of socialising her. This requires lots of patience (which I do not have in abundance) so I guess I'm learning a lesson too. On arrival she ran from cat basket to behind the kitchen units and we didn't see her for a couple of days. Bit by bit we saw a bit more of her starting with a nose, then a paw, then an ear etc...She's now coming out completely for food but you can't touch her. I've seen a dvd which recommends feeding baby food from your fingers to train feral cats, so I might give this a try. I am positive though, progress is definitely happening.

Debbie, she is gorgeous, she will be worth the patience I am sure. I miss my cat, but now we have three dogs and a bird table, it's not gonna happen any time soon! good luck with her. Bx

I have some news for you since I made the post earilier this evening. I put a box lined with a towel in our dining room (connected directly to the kitchen) and she has decided she likes it and has moved in - yay!!
Ate her food very close to me tonight.

Oooh!! How gorgeous are her markings...she's got a sweet little face too. I am sure she will soon be settled with you and will become quite socialized with you soon, especially if you still have the other cats.... As she ate quite near to you tonight, I would say she is beginning to trust you. Leaving her alone for the first few days to come to you was probably the best thing you could have done for her... she knows you're not there to hurt her or harm her in any way, so has decided she's safe. Luv Anita xxx

Kittie training update.
She's had a tour of the living room and decided she quite likes Andy's armchair so she can watch tv. Though she didn't like 2 cushions on and wrestled one to the floor, so she could lay out in peace on the chair. Sadly we can't let her in a bit more yet as our other cat Betsy, biffs her.
She's now been taking food from our hands and this morning when I fed her, she let me stroke her back and neck. All still very tentative at this stage but looking good.
B I will be taking more pics now she's out and about more.

Sooo sweet!I had a part feral kitten some years back called Dessie. The first time he came to us,he shot up the chimney and hid on the ledge for a day.Took a lot of patience, but he came round and was well worth the effort. He was soo grumpy but so cute, and very loving if you were ill xLook forward to hearing more of Myah's adventures!

Hi Fran, good to hear that your kitten came around with time. Myah is out and about quite well now but still hates if we make any move towards her. We have managed to stroke her a few times accompanied by much hissing and spitting and that's just my hubby.

I'm not completely certain yet, but I suspect that Myah is a little boy! She was rolling around in front of me last night and the arrangment didn't look as I was expecting, though it's hard to tell until they mature a bit. Watch this space....

Funny Debbie, it is hard to tell when they are so small, especially if can't pick them up for a close inspection. An older cat adopted my sister, my sister thought it would be funny to call her Sharon, a year or so later she had to take Sharon to the vet where she discovered to her amusement Sharon was a done boy cat, she stuck with the name Sharon though, i think Myah suits both sexes ?
