There was a repeat of 'Are You Being Served' on BBC2 on Saturday night. The staff were selling toys for a day, instead of clothes.
The ladieswear dept got the dolls to sell. There was a brief glimpse of a teen doll, named as Playmate Penny. I couldn't make out what doll she was, though the head looked too small for her to be Sindy. We got a much clearer view of her friend, Funtime Freddy. He was actually Peter, from the Champions equestrian themed range by Pedigree.
Behind the counter was a display of boxes, which included some Sindy items in the pink 70's design. The only one I could make out was an Active Sindy box, with a picture of the ballerina doll bending over.
There was also some Weebles, named Wibbly-Wobblies for the show, and one of those plastic tree/doll's house toys that James May's sister had. (I don't remember them, but he featured it in his programme on girl's toys - and blew one up). Oh, and there was one of those money boxes, where you put the coin in a groove, and a zombie hand comes out to grab the coin and take it inside. I definitely remember those - I think my brother had one. All in all, very nostalgic.

'...There was also some Weebles, named Wibbly-Wobblies for the show' Altogether now - 'Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down!' I didn't see this particular programme, but we always watched 'Are you being served' in our house. Altogether now (2) - 'Are you free, Captain Peacock?' 'I'm free, Mrs Slocombe! '.... Oh, and there was one of those money boxes, where you put the coin in a groove, and a zombie hand comes out to grab the coin and take it inside.' Our kids have a game called 'Captain Bones' gold' that we play quite regularly. Seems like the designers have 'borrowed' this basic idea! '...All in all, very nostalgic.' I must have been around eleven when it first started. I wish there had been an O' level in in TV jingles, and comedy catch phrases - I might have fared better! Having said that, I'm actually quite gobsmacked that 'AYBS' (as it might have been refered to today!) ran for 13 years??!!!
