Hi I have just started to get interested in collecting Sindy's. I am a 50 year old grandmother, and Im bringing up my grandchildren. My 3 granddaughters all love dolls and I tell them about the ones I used to have. I recently tried to get them a Tiny Tears and a Sindy like the ones I had and I realised I would like to get a 60s original Sindy like the one I had in about 1963/4 just for myself!
If anyone would like to offer any advice to a new collector on how to start a collection, please get in touch, I would love to hear from you!

Hi Alyson and welcome . You will find lots of like minded collectors here on the forum and everyone is very friendly and helpful. I personally found Ebay to be a great place to start ... just type in Sindy and watch the pages unfold!!!! Hundreds of things to choose from and a great place to start. You can sometimes be lucky at car boot sales or charity shops, but these bargains are becoming few and far between! Welcome and look forward to chatting with you along the way. Lisa xxx

Hi Alyson! Welcome to the forum! I'd echo what others have said & say that eBay is often a good place to start! That's how I started my collection. I got a 1980's Sindy doll & then I got a newer Barbie doll & um, that's how it all began! I would say that with the 1960s Sindy dolls is be sure to research them, as there are clones of those dolls as well as the originals. Hope you find the doll you want soon! Luv Natasha

Thats really helpful thanks. Ive had a bit of success on ebay and have won some dolls from the late 70s but they are yet to arrive. I expect they will want some tlc.
I am considering buying a 60s one from an antiques market if its still there. I will write the dates and what should be stamped on its back and take them with me!

Hi Alyson Welcome aboard and do have fun reading the posts and making new friends. As well as looking for Sindy on eBay, we have a section on this Forum for Sales, Wants etc; where we collectors inform each other if we are looking for something or are intending to sell anything. Sometimes mistakes happen when buying on eBay - there are loads of "Clone" dolls about and while they are nice, they aren't always of good quality. We have an ID section which should eventually help you to recognise what kind of Sindy you are looking at. Our Forum owner - Cheryl - has her own website and that gives lots of useful information as does the website belonging to Debbie Scott -who is moderator of Mysindy Forum and is a respected member of this Forum. Debbie has comprehensive information on Ideal Tammy and Family as well as detailed information (with pics) on Sindy dolls. www.sindydolly.com/www.dazedbydolls.co.uk/You need to know what markings to look for when finding a genuine Sindy, such as the different markings that appear at the nape of her neck, on her head halfway up (you need to part the hair to see these markings which are usually numbers) and on her body (shoulder blades, waist or bottom). Don't always believe that a doll is HTF or Rare (especially on eBay) as this isn't always true and never be disappointed if you lose out on one doll - she may come up on eBay again at a later date. Some Sellers use the RARE or HTF phrases much too freely and this regularly catches out new collectors Anyway, chat with you again soon on the various sections here Luv Anita xxx

Sorry for the delay in welcoming you. I am having trouble keeping up with all the posts on here. I am of a similar age to you but without the pleasure of the grandchildren. I have been collecting for a few years now. I have Sindy, Barbie, Tressy, Pippa, Tiny Tears, in fact all the dolls that I had as a kid plus the ones that I really wanted. I have Succumbed to a few modern dolls too. You will find that you learn as you go along plus you will find lots of help and advice from the friendly, knowlegdeable ladies and gentlemen on this forum. I know you have already discovered GroovyCart which is where a lot of our forum members sell. I have updated the list at your request and added some new dolly shops that have popped up since the original list was written. This is my shop - www.groovycart.co.uk/cart.php?c=48&cat=Tiny+Tears+%2F+Teeny+Tiny+TearsI have been lucky enough to find a collection of twin Sindys to offer on my shop. Good luck in your dolly collecting. Jill x

Thank you very much Jill, I appreciate it.
I can see lots of things on there that I fancy for when my overdraft recovers from the holiday. In the meantime, I am fancying one or two tiny accessories!
PS where are the twins?
