I just thought I would sign in and say hello. If you are interested I'll give you a bit of background (tough if you aren't ) I LOVED my Sindy dolls when I was wee. With my first one being a basic funtime in a striped sundress. I had several and played daily with them for hours on end. I even made houses/stables etc etc for them. Woe betide anyone who dared suggest my collection of cardboard structures were just boxes As I grew up the building obsession took over and I'm now an engineer (when I give talks I always blame my Sindy dolls for starting it all.) However I gave my dolls up in about 1985 after being bullied by my sister. Think theres a few bits in my Mum's attic still but haven't had a chance to look yet.... So roll on to Halloween and our friends and their children were over for a party. (I have a 3 yr old boy) The next (mildly hung over morning) we ended talking about dolls as my friend collects them.... well a couple of glasses of wine later that night and I am now the proud owner of a ballerina Sindy. Roll onto this week and I've decided that I want to collect decent examples of all the dolls (about 8 of them) that I owned as a wee girl... So here I am, very new to this collecting malarkey and just trying to find out what is what. And trying to figure out how to justify all these potential doll purchases to my partner... So Hello! Tx

Thanks for the lovely welcome wiveygirl I think when we were little we all wanted to be ballerinas. Unfortunately I'm naturally clumsy and completely ungraceful.... so being a ballerina was never an option I remember my favourite dolls were a 'shaping up' Sindy. I saved my pocket money for weeks... only to get it home and lose the leotard!?! To this day I swear it was pinched by fairies... My other favourite was a beach party auburn haired Sindy but I loved dressing her in a 'rock and roll' style outfit... I NEED both these dolls back in my life ;-) But I'm waiting to see how much has survived in my Mum's attic... The only thing I know for sure is that there is a range rover in a broken box (I 'garage converted' the box..... ) and some clothes/shoes... ;D Tx

You are very welcome T! Bad fairy ... put that leotard down! Oh that must really annoy you that you can't find it! Maybe it will appear in the loft? I hope you get some good stuff in your rummage. I was lucky in that a childhood friend who I gave all my Sindy stuff too has recently passed a load of it back to me (woohoo!) and I have got back my original ballerina and a party time. I never did have Shaping Up or Beach Party as a child, but love them now and so purchased Shaping Up - need to find a nice Beach Party now! I'm waffling now - throw the budgie cover over me! Love Lisa x

Welcome Tracey Great Intro - thanks for sharing your story with us. We like Introductions like that - full of humour and character!! ;D I hope your partner will be understanding of your returning love for Sindy - most of us have other halves that thankfully accept our hobby as part of us. I hope your sister will be nicer to you this time around in regards to your doll collecting. Good Luck in getting to your stored items in your Mum's attic soon. If your friend isn't already a member here, you should get her to join us soon!!! Chat soon, Luv Anita xxx

Hi T and welcome to the forum.
In answer to your question 'is this an addictive hobby', I would definately say...erm...YES! I really only started 'collecting' in about August but all I seem to think about these days is Sindy (or even 'dollies' as I'm trying to collect others too). I swore to my husband that I wouldn't spend too much money on my new hobby but I bet if you added up all the 'few pounds' spent here and there, since August!
Hope you managed to get up in the attic to retrieve your old stuff soon . . . sounds exciting. I was lucky to be reunited with a lot of my old stuff from the attic too. It was good and bad news really. Some stuff that I thought was lost wasn't, while other stuff I thought I still had was either not there or was in pretty bad shape. Let us know how you get on!
Look forward to chatting more soon.
Susan

very addictive i have only been collecting for about 2 months and i have 11 sindys already.
one is a choc chip reroot [ not done by me though]a friends thickening her up for me because the person who rerooted her left it very thin.
i bought her off ebay and didn't know anything about rerooting.

Hi there! Welcome to the forum! Great story! One of my first Sindy dolls was the funtime in the stripey dress! I remember taking her to school with me one day when we were allowed to take a toy of our choice! Um, when I was older though I turned poor funtime Sindy into a punk when I colored her hair with felt-tips!But I'd had her ages by then and her hair was a bit tatty anyhow ;D ;D Yes, collecting Sindy dolls is very addictive. I bought one nearly 4 years ago and now I have quite a few and other fashion dolls too! Luv Natasha

Welcome from Australia. Sindy collecting, or doll collecting in general is definitely addictive as I have been collecting her and other dolls for 23 years. The fascination never ends and NEVER add up what you have spent ;D

:)Welcome T
Oh yes very very addictive, my flat and my partners home are dolls galore. For me it doesnt just stop with Sindy i love Barbies, ragdolls, toddler dolls, baby dolls, porcelein dolls etc. I have so many many now that from the New Year i have declared no more additions other than the odd special. I have been collecting dolls 19 years now. I remember when i just had a handfull and it soon escalated. My partner Kevin started off 3 years ago just wanting one bubblecut party girl in the stripped sailor frock after keep seeing my collection. Now he's got around a 1000 different dolls of his own and added to my own doll collection in huge numbers.

Thanks for the welcome Carl & Kevin, Sounds like it does get VERY addictive I can't see my partner getting addicted to buying dolls too (but he was having a look on evilbay for me last night whilst I was dealing with my wayward 3 year old) But I think its more that hes addicted to ebay But I did notice he was quite proudly telling his pal on MSN he was buying dolls ;D And he bought me a £2.74 doll to re-root, so its all good ;D Saying that its got to be cheaper/less space filling/less oily than my other hobby of collecting classic cars. ;D I'm already planning on matching dolls to cars... is that wrong? I'm planning a jumping jive for my blue beetle and a sunshine sindy in swimsuit for the beige camper van..... My Mum thinks I've lost it.... I just think I've 'found' it Tx
