hi all, i am soon to become mummy to 2 kittens that were found on a rubbish tip age 3 weeks. They are still at recue center and we cannot bring them home for another 5 weeks but i am so excited. We can go and visit as often as we like(think ill be there every day) I have not seen them yet, they are black and white. I have heard vets bills and general cost of cats can be high so i am selling some dolls that i know i will no longer have time to finish. My 2 girls have no idea and i am not going to tell them til nearer time. Has anyone got any tips on things i will need to buy and how to train them etc. Any help greatly appreciated. thanks

Hi How delightful!I love cats and have a black girl rescue one of my own called Tia Maria. Oh, then there's Alice (tortie) and Amy (grey long-haired) who are also rescue cats but live in our shed because they are still a little wild.
Things will be easier for you because you'll have them from kittens whereas ours were emotional wrecks and we've had to tread very carefully in their handling. It's taken a year but we can now cuddle Alice and Amy lets my hubby stroke her. Both were badly neglected you see.
Things to get- litter tray(s), toys, flea stuff- but check it's Ok for kittens, nice comfy bed....... Luv B

Hi,
Kittens, ahhhh, Im so jealous, lol. I have two big 15yr old black and white boys (also rescued) who are fab but not as cute as kittens!
Get some toys laced with catnip. One of those cat playcentre things would be good for kittens as they can hide in them and scratch and reach that all important "high as a human" vantage point! and it will help deter them from climbing the furniture. Get good quality spot on flea treatment, most can be used after 8 weeks but check before you buy and you'll need some worming tablets.
Im sure you'll give them the most important thing... loads of love, so they'll be happy as larry.
Post a pic of them please, would be great to see them.

Definatley get a scratch post, otherwise they'll be scratching the carpets and/or furniture. Another thing is if your getting them a collar (one with bells on) make sure you put it on the kitten asap. My friend had a cat, she'd had him a few years, he'd always worn a collar but not one with bells on. When my friend bought him a new collar it had bells on, she put it on him and the noise of the bells spooked him and he ran off, right into the path of a moving car!

oh kay that is so sad. Bronnie it must have taken lots of time and patience with your cats. Thanks for replies.def right about the scratching posts and activity thing, first thing neil said was what about our leather sofa. I told him i would train them not too scratch it!! think he accepted that answer?? I am going to start buying things ready, think its about 5 weeks til we get them but there seems to be lots to buy .(i feel like a new baby is arriving)

Aaah thats so sweet...hmmm the sofa might be at risk slightly! You will have to be vigilant Penny...if theres Two they will bounce of each other too and be double trouble when they are feeling mischevious ha ha. I wish you luck it sounds like they are coming to a very loving home..dont forget to post us some pics! Nicki xx

Hi Penny Yes my girls are all so cute and the fluffy grey one just wants to be loved. She was found wild in a garden in Worcester and had had kittens of her own at only 9 months, We really love her and are so rewarded now she comes up to us and lets us stroke her. She's still very timid and likes to sit on the window and play with us through the glass! Just had another thought Penny you will need a pet basket/ carrier for vet visits. We've got a plastic one which is easy to clean and has a simple front door opening which shuts quickly. I was so tempted by your 2nd TG which Beanie bought. Then I decided I had to be content with my TG birthday present you all bought me in May. Thanks again folks - I look at her and think how sweet of all of you! LOL B Fluffy Amy This is tortie Alice who was found ripping open rubbish sacks looking for food!We now give her Felix Roasted and Sheba!!

Ahhhhhhhhh Penny such a darling little bundle of fur! Is it a he or she? Nearly all my cats have been black and white in the past and they've all been lovely charcaters. Hope you are as lucky with this little cutie! Yes Felix Roasted actually smells and looks quite nice, not that I'm tempted you understand!. The two 'wild' girls love it along with James Wellbeloved biscuits. Because I have been giving them better food their coats have improved. We buy in bulk online from www.petmeds.co.uk and it's delivered to my husband's workplace. We do this as Tia has to have special prescription food as she has a chronic urinary condition and this is very expensive from the vets. Petmeds do all types of foods and are very competitive- check them out. Love Bxx

Hi Bronnie,
Can anyone buy from petmeds? One of my old chaps has kidney stones and other urinary problems and we have to buy food from vets every month for the rest of his life and its mega expensive. Would be great if I could get it from there?
Thanks

Hi Jo Just log on to the address I said. You pay by card. They are very efficient and even with the delivery charge it comes out cheaper than the vets for us. Best to buy in bulk when you need it.
Tip- once you have bought something now and again they will email you with a discount code which means you can get even more off the bill. At the moment we need to replenish more stocks but we will give it a week to see if they send us a code via email first. The offer only last a few days but it can save you some ££.
Hope you find this helpful. Bronnie x

Hi Penny Aww!! Cute Kittie - I'd be tempted to call that one Patches because of the white dotted about and the name would suit either male or female. One thing that might help you when bringing them both home is to put something old you no longer wear in with them, so they get to know and recognise your scent.... it will help them settle better. Luv Anita xxx
