I saw pics of the fire damaged buildings across from the clock tower Sue as i often do image searches etc on Skegness and look at the Skegness Standards latest news it was very sad to see. I love the traditional victorian style boardwalk area they did between the Pier and the funfare. It reminded me so much of a pier and the kiosk were similar styling to the original that were on the pier in its long glory days before the 78 storm that sadly shortened it. Do you remember Skegness Pier before 1978? I have loads of images of the pier over the years saved in my pictures file, including some i had never seen of the poor stranded theatre out at sea during its demolition before the fire in 1985. I also have my own blown up photographs of the pier on My lounge, bedroom and landing walls. I'm in Blackpool but i do have to have my images of Skegness and its beloved pier to always remind me of the happy times i have spent there.

Aaawwhhh Sue thankyou for your own little memories. I was only 8 at the time of the 11th January storm of 78 that destroyed much of what was a one of the greatest seaside piers on our coastlines so i dont have any physical memories of it in the long days. I have vidio footage and many pics of it and have seen how they all used to fish at the end of the pier in the 60's. Today it may not be nearly near so long and the pierhead theatre gone but it is very much a grand little pier stretching over the beach. The owners have certainly done it proud in recent years. I'm sure i remember the laughing policeman. They are often at seaside fairs and are very scary arnt they. Do you remember the little ghost train underneath the stretch of the piers long entrance pavillion. That used to terrify me i didnt even like walking past it. Things used to touch your head inside it. Dont ask me what was actually in it as i would cling under my mum or dads arm with my hands over my eyes.
