Hi everyone!
Firstly, can I just say what a great site this is and thanks to Vonny for telling me about it ;D
I have recently started to re-collect my Sindys and her clothes after seeing my old Sindy house go in the skip at my Mum's house. Sadly the house with it's bedroom and stable extension (along with all the furniture, dolls, clothes, etc) had been stood in my Mum's garage for years and were beyond repair - to say it brought a tear to my eye is an understatement!
I managed to salvage two of my dolls (1985 Fashion Fun Sindy & First Romance - not with original clothes though ) and some furniture and since then I have been spending a small fortune on a famous Internet auction site trying to re-create my Sindy collection and I have also started to collect boxed Hasbro, Vivid Imagination and New Moon dolls. My heart will always favour 1980's Pedigree Sindy, as she was the one I grew up with, but I do think that Hasbro's first new face Sindy (City Girl, Romance 'n Roses etc.) is particularly pretty!
My first Sindy was a blonde active ballerina with pink tutu and ballet pumps and I remember her having her hands attached on opposite arms! I also remember giving her hair a wash and being very upset when it dried into a tangled dry mess! I learnt my lesson never to do that to a Sindy again!
For the next Christmas I remember my parents buying my sister an auburn Sindy Skater in the red outfit ( I got Quick Change Sindy). I told her not to wash her hair, but poor Sindy went down the same route as my ballerina!
One of my favourite Sindys was bought for me by Mum & Dad on holiday and appropriately named Beach Party Sindy AND she was the rare auburn haired version! If only my dolls hadn't gone into the garage!!!!!!
I loved my dolls so much and really looked after them, changing their clothes, dusting their house and even decorating it at Christmas with a hand made Christmas tree (made out of a toilet roll holder), paper chains and wrapping gifts for them to put under the tree!
But then at 14 I discovered music and started to collect records and tapes, so all my Sindy collection went from my room and into the dreaded garage ..........
Anyway, I am now 33, married and have a little girl who is nearly two (I hope that she will grow up to appreciate Sindy as much as I do!) and I'm loving collecting my Sindys again and I'm really happy that there are so many other Sindy fans out there that share my love for the best doll in the world! ;D
Thanks for taking the time to read all of this,
Hope to hear from you soon,
With love, Ineke
