Hi everyone!
My name is Rachel, and I've been an avid fan of Sindy since I was five. I am also a commercial doll designer, and my first job was helping relaunch Sindy at Vivid Imaginations in 1998 - 99. I also drew the illustrations for New Moons Sindy, I helped design Sindy and the fairies for the Fairy Princess DVD and I did most of the photography and the photo stories for Sindy magazine, until I became pregnant with my first child Millie in 2003. Then the magazine closed down shortly after that, which was a shame as I had such fun working with the team at Panini! I also designed one of the first ballerina collectable Sindys which I think never made it to production, but I helped out on the porcelain one recently.
It's great to find a place where other Sindy fans 'meet' and I'm sure that I'll be up until the early hours reading everyone's posts!
Many thanks and it's great to be here!
With Best Wishes, Rachel.

Hi Rachel Welcome aboard - hope you enjoy your time here - you'll be bombarded with questions knowing you are a doll designer and that you were involved with several Sindy projects!! Pedigree could have done with you when they were designing and producing the dolls for Hatchette recently!! ;D It's nice to know you were involved with the Danbury Mint Sindy - she is rather lovely!! We were all waiting expectantly for the Ballerina to come out but they never relly explained why it didn't happen - hope they can do something along those lines eventually though as the demand is definitely there (hint, hint) LOLOL Hope to chat with you lots soon Luv Anita xxx

Wow! Thank you all for such an incredible welcome!
Designing dolls (especially Sindy) is really great - you get to live out your childhood again for your career! (It also helps getting lots of free dolls!) I usually get asked by companies at the last minute to do things so the stress level is quite high most of the time. I paint doll heads, sew prototype sample outfits and illustrate commercially at the moment.
I love doll photography and I'm trying to dig out some old photos I can post on here! All the photo stories for Sindy Magazine were shot on the Isle of Wight at Godshill Model Village, and I'd be there rain, wind or shine photographing Sindy for her next story. The gardeners there used to laugh at me bending over backwards swearing at the poor dolls when they blew down in the wind! And there'd always be a busload of elderly tourists asking me (for the hundredth time), 'Aren't you a little old to be playing with dolls?!!' Any inside shots were photographed literally on the kitchen table with a couple of table lamps! (It'd then be down to my good old computer to make it look real!)
The one thing I've found when working on Sindy though, is how enthusiastic everyone is for her. Everyone I know who works with Sindy in any way is so dedicated to her, and I just have this gut instinct that one day soon Sindy will be a massive hit again with little girls everywhere!
Take care everyone and many thanks again for such a warm welcome!
With Best Wishes, Rachel X
