AMAZING!! Simply gorgeous Sadly, I haven't been outside my front door today Luke, so haven't bought a ribbon this year. My husband Steve wouldn't have noticed anyone selling ribbons as he is one of those people that avoids this issue, much to my annoyance. I used to work as a clerical officer for one of the local hospitals and the department I worked for was responsible for testing for HIV and more if you get my drift, so I read up on stuff and took it all on board years ago. Several friends of mine ignored the issue to their peril and one has since died of full-blown AIDS Glad you decided to do this thread as this sensitive issue is not going to go away and as you say it can affect anyone and everyone of either gender. Luv Lots Anita xxx

Hi Lukey and Anita .. I didn't think there was still a stigma about aids !! But I have to say that I haven't seen anyone selling ribbons in the local town this week ..Its a small town and they are a bit ?? Dysfunctional would be the best word !! I think people support different charities for different reasons .. Lisa

Hi Luke,
Your AIDS Awareness Day OOAK is truly breathtaking Lukey. I did not know about this day at all. I live in the remote north of Scotland and people are especially unaware of AIDs and HIV up here.
I am glad that you brought AIDs awareness day to my attention though. Your are so right that it is a terrible disease and that it can affect anyone.
I am a big fan of Freddie Mercury and the songs that he wrote in the last days of his life are a poignant expression of the pain and tragedy of this disease.
However, I also find it extremely inspiring way he faced this disease so bravely and kept on fighting and trying right to the end. None of us know how long we have got on this planet. When I listen to his songs it inspires me to keep on trying and to make every day count!

She's fabulous, a stunner Luke.
I have to be honest i rushed out shopping today in Blackpool and didnt wear a red ribbon. I have done on previous World Aids Day. I didnt notice anyone selling them but i do know that all the Gay Venues here would have and possibly caberet shows etc with donations. I dont go out on the scene anymore really. Kevin and I went out with work colleagues in a couple of the venues when he was here for my birthday a fortnight ago and i went for an afternoon couple of pints with close Friends last Sunday but other than that my days of going out on scenes are by choice and happily non existent.
It is a worldspread disease and one that is still thought of with ignorance by some. Had it been a workday i would have worn a red ribbon at work.
Carl xx

Hi Lukey .. Forgot to say how lush the ooak is I think more people support aids charities than you think ..As Anita said ... People prefer to support most charities privately and don't talk about it ..I bet most of us here have got one or two direct debits going out for different charities chosen for personal reasons ? and don't talk about them ?? I also think Sue is right that we should do something next year .. I think we should set a challenge to all find a Aids awareness ribbon and be generous with how much money we put in the charity box !! Its only one day after all ... What do you think Lukey ? Lisa

Hi all, I do agree it is a very just cause, a lot of young girls up here were deliberatley infected with the virus by a bouncer, but we also have lots of girls and boys infected due to sharing needles thru Heroin abuse. I cant help feeling that the forum isnt the right place to go about this, but thats just my opinion. As a Transplant patient, my preferences would lie with raising money towards the 5000 people waiting on the donor lists, as you have to be allocated a time (yes!!) to go onto dialysis as there are not enough dialysis machines! Do you see what I mean? I dont think its possible to pick out just one charity, you would have to pick out hundreds for different days of the year, or it just wouldnt be fair I hope that sounds a fair comment, as it is meant to be xx

Hi Suzi and all, I have been thinking about the points you have raised and I agree with you that there are many equally worthwhile and just causes out there. No-one can support them all. We will have our reasons why certain ones may be closest to our hearts and some of us may prefer to keep out charity support private. We are all a caring lot, so how about the possibility of having a Charity and Good Causes section on the forum. In this section, those that wish to do so, can mention the charity they wish to highlight or mention any fundraising or campaigns that may be happening. This is just an idea - what do others think? Di Diane, I think that's a great idea, I'd regularly check a recommended charities thread or subforum. Luke your creation is fantastic, love it.
