Hi All! I'm Eve from Australia. When I was a kid I had a few treasured Barbies but we never had much money so they were very precious to me. Then Mum brought home a Sindy! She tells me now that my dolly was too expensive but that she was just so beautiful she had to have her. Sindy was far and away my favourite doll. She was a blonde ballerina (late 70s, early 80s I think) and I loved her soft hair, her pretty face and her mobility. Sadly this doll was sold with all my barbies at a garage sale when I was 13. I remember agonising at the time about whether to keep her, but one of her legs had come off so out she went. I have regretted this greatly ever since! A few years later I went to the toy shop with the intention to buy another Sindy and was disgusted to find that she had been americanised. Sooo disappointed!
About 5 years ago I set about trying to replace her and bought a box lot on eBay for $15 after I found a sindy at the op shop (thrift store). I was a bit disappointed that none were exactly the same as my original girl but happy with the purchase overall. These dolls sat on a shelf until about 3 or 4 months ago when I decided to do some research on them. What a treasure trove! There are 2 mid 80s actives, a sad face, a 2gen, a 73 Funtime, a mid 60s girl and a Tammy! Most had issues but nothing a wash, boil perm or reroot couldn't fix.
I must admit, I am now a bit obsessed!
I have been loving eBay and now my collection is getting a bit out of control. My favourite Sindys are the new look sidepart, the hard head ballerina and, of course, the gorgeous Trendy girl.
Oh, and if you're wondering, I did find a replacement for my childhood doll a few weeks ago when I bought a Tammy and two extras on eBay. What the photos didn't do justice to was a near mint 2gen blonde ballerina with perfect face up and...posing ankles! That's my girl!
So satisfying!
Anyway apologies for the length of this post, my hubby and friends are mostly uninterested so I have no one else to bore with my Sindy enthusiasms! Quite happy to be here!
Cheers to all, Eve
