I think that is "head drop" when the ball disappears up into the main part of the head. I think it is fixable, probably by using come hot water and patience - there may be a discussion about it in the section on mending Sindys, although I once snapped a torso being a bit over zealous getting a hard head off :/
I do love some of my sadder looking Sindys becasue of their faults though - so I'm glad your daughter isn't holding a faulty neck against her! I wouldn't worry about having a lack of shoes or clothes - once you start collecting you'll be shocked how much you can amass relatively quickly!!
I'm not great at sewing etc; either, but a few stitches can work wonders on some TLC clothes.

Thank you very much smirky beck for the info re Sindy head drop. I couldn't find any info anywhere about it specifically but after a bit of research I figured if you can remove the heads for reroots, then it couldn't do any harm to take no neck Sindys off and see what was inside! And voila, when it went back on, she had a neck again! Lots of shampoo, conditioner and combing later, and we have discovered that our grotty girl has lovely long golden hair! Some plugs missing but hey, we weren't expecting perfection! The dirty marks on her legs have scrubbed off too, so apart from missing fingers, loose leg joints, a non clicking leg and on black mark on her head which wouldn't wash off, she is looking like a new Sindy! Well, a bit anyway! My daughter is delighted, although she loved Sindy how she was, and now wants to rescue all the 99p Sindys on eBay and clean them up. I'm quite impressed with the way Sindy has turned out too.

So pleased for you both that Sindy turned out ok. That does happen quite a lot with 'dirty' dolls. I have had that too. You find one that looks really grotty and they sometimes come out so beautiful. A good wash and condition can do wonders.
All of my dolls have been bought at flea markets and I must admit that I just cannot part with them and have not done one reroot yet, although a few of them could really do with one.
Good luck with getting more dolls, as we said earlier Sindy can get very addictive.
Have fun.

Yes, I'm hooked. I now have 5 Sindys on the way following a mad bidding spree on eBay over the last week! Only one of them is on good condition though, she is a gorgeous auburn haired, either active or lovely lively girl. I think I worked on the basis that if I bid on enough of the cheap ones I would win one and I've won a few as well as some other bits. I now have to stay off eBay for a while as I have spent too much money and need to buy pet food! The girls may have to wait for clothing, but we can clean them up a bit and try and tidy the grotty hair. All good fun!

And a belated welcome from me also . Lovely to hear that your daughter has an interest in Sindy. I've heard too many times ladies selling their childhood Sindy to me saying their daughter isn't interested in her. I started off buying the cheaper dolls on evilbaby. It's surprising what you can get sometimes for very little money and how well they come up with a good wash and hair set.

Four out of the five bidding spree Sindys have arrived now. I now own an active Sindy from 1979 or 1980 but she has melt on all four joints, the arms were stuck in it said on the listing so can't complain! I have managed to prise the arms loose and I read somewhere about using nail scissors to cut away melted bits and using talcum powder to slow down the melting. Anyone have any experience with this? Two of the girls are 1982 Princess Di hard heads with the short hair. The hair on both is a mess, dry and frizzy and sticking up everywhere. I have been soaking the blonde one in hair conditioner for a day and I will comb it through later but I'm not sure it is going to make any difference. When we did no neck Sindys hair it was long and could be held down and styled a bit, the short hair doesn't seem as workable. It's a shame as she is otherwise in pretty good nick and I like stroking my Sindys hair normally. Any haircare advice for the short haired girls would be much appreciated!

if the short haired girl is one of the smaller Hong Kong issued ones (sad faced Sindys) they are known for developing frizzy coarse hair after a while. I have several the same. I think its to do with the type of hair that factory was using at that particular time.

Wow! Well done on getting some dolls off Ebay! Actives are lovely dolls arn't they, especially ballerinas! As for you frizzy hair problem, as Sharie said, it is very common with these dolls. I have been collecting 5 years and I haven't managed to get one who's hair isn't frizzy lol It's a shame really but I always say I like to see Sindys that have been loved and played with, me an my Sister arn't mint collectors. So what's next on the list? A Sindy Superhome? LOL x

I am pleased to report that the blonde short hair Sindy (yes, they are both Hong Kong issues), now has some semblance of a hair style! Frizzy, yes, but it isn't sticking up everywhere any more and does look like she could pass for the Princess Di Sindy rather than a hedgehog! A day and a half plastered in conditioner and being smoothed down several times along the way has achieved a measure of success beyond my expectation. My daughter has now pinched her to be hairdresser Sindy. No scissors involved, just pony tails and bunches. I'm now working on the short hair brunette with very floppy legs. It's good to know that I shouldn't expect too much from the short haired dolls hair, do all the frizzy short heads have sticky up hair? My daughter would love a Sindy house, she has converted one of her bookshelves into a Sindy sitting room. It's too low for Sindy to stand but she can sit down and have dolls house and Sylvanian family food for dinner from an improvised table. The annoying thing is that my Mum offered me my sisters Sindy/ Barbie house 3 years ago when she moved house. In was in pieces in her loft, probably missing bits and I turned it down cos Poppy wasn't interested in any fashion dolls at the time, and our loft was jam packed and my husband was quite sure nothing else could be fitted in it! At the time, it was a sensible decision to say no, we are rather cluttered, but now I think if only I had taken it Poppy would have such fun. Hindsight!

Thank you! This is my first time on the forum this month and I have some catching up to do! The thing with going away is the amount of washing afterwards, even aside from the sleeping bags and the dog bedding!
