Did anyone see this on channel 4 last night. The premise is that a dealer helps someone clear their clutter and a designer uses the sale money to re-decorate. Last night's victim - oops I mean lucky recipient was a vintage toy collector and she had so much doll stuff I would love to have got my hands on. There was Pippa, Tressy, Action Girl, Barbie in hoards. She sold 90% of it during the programme.
The lady is called Joy, wondered if she posts on any collector's forums?

sounds interesting. If I get a minute I will watch on catch -up. I'm on a declutter mission , doing a boot sale with a lot of stuff that I've gotten bored with (not doll stuff). Make room for more junk ;D

I had really high hopes for this series as it seems to be a rip off of an American programme called Clean House. They have a team of 4 - a counsellor (to help the person understand why they are cluttering and aid the decluttering), a designer, a handyman (to do the fixing up jobs) and a yard sale expert (for the selling). The big factor that is missing from the UK version is the counselling bit which is quite gentle in Clean house. In the UK version, they seem to bully the homeowner into selling stuff. I also notice the designer really likes battleship grey as a decorating shade Well done Sharie on the decluttering. I've also been doing quite a bit as we've been sorting out the spaces following the flood. Everything just got shoved into bags and boxes, so now they are being sorted into keep and sell piles.

I thought the dolls sold at Portabello market went for too little money and some of the redecorating was awful! I thought she had way too much stuff but also sad that she didnt keep more of her dolls . debbiex

Yeah, she had some nice Barbie's. I'd have like to have seen what she kept. This weeks has a Doctor Who collector which looks interesting.

Pity I can´t see it over here.
We have-had a same sort of programme where people who hoarded stuff were ´helped´ to get rid of it.
Only saw it once and was quite sad sometimes to see the person having to get rid of things. The one I saw was of a man who lived in this huge house, beautiful on the outside but o o o what a clutter inside. He couldn´t even find his bed!!!!! Even the stairs were full of junk.
In this programme all they did was sort the stuff out, either for recycling, selling, chucking or keeping. No redecorating or counseling.

Yes Patricia, these clean up programmes are pretty popular at the moment. Has anyone seen hoarders, the american show for people who are compulsive hoarders even when it reduces them to living in a small corner of the house with no facilities. I've seen people on that show who have been threatened with prison under public health, have had to sleep in homeless shelters as the house was too much of a fire hazard, those who have made themselves ill, lost marriages or had kids taken into care. Obviously at this stage, it is classed as a mental illness and they have a psychologist, a professional organiser as well as a clear out team. One episode that upset me was a woman who found her pet cats dead and decayed under piles of rubbish (poor creatures). The folk in get your house in order are not at that stage but might need a psychologist to help them face the battleship grey makeover.

I finally got round to watching this programme last night. I must say I felt really sorry for the lady getting rid of all her collections. The auction house took £1500 off the £5000 her items sold for! And I felt sorry for her on that stall selling her prized bits and pieces. I'd have had fun buying her Sindy things from her - I reckon I'd have given her a better price too The attitude of the designer really got to me - complaining as the lady wanted to keep part of her collection and saying it would get in the way of her interior design. Then laughing saying she was going to stop the lady collecting by giving her such a beautiful place to live she wouldn't want to clutter it up. Well I thought her designs were awful and would have felt the need to pack it full of stuff so I didn't need to look at it! Ughhh really annoyed me those people - no real sympathy for a woman who'd lost her husband after a long illness, they just bullied her.

I know Sharie, the designer is not very sympathetic at all. This week they had to hypnotise the seller into getting rid of his Dr Who collection, so she could paint the walls not only battleship grey but also sludge brown and to turn the white light conservatory into black.

Good God, bet he is on anti depressants now living in a place like that.

I saw this show. I felt bad for Joy being made to give up so many of her dolls. I'm sure they could have nicely displayed the more rare Barbie dolls. Obviously it was all Barbie and her history, but being British it would have been nice to have included some history on her Sindy dolls too.

I enjoyed this series. I'm glad to see I'm not alone in thinking the home owners got a rough deal in order to get a less cluttered home Did anyone see the next show in this slot, once this series of Get Your House in Order had ended? I think it was called The House That Clutter Built.
