:-*Hi everyone from Blockhose bay in New Zealand. I am a Lancashire Lass arrived in NZ 1970. Bought my very first Sindy on Christmas Day 2009 and have been collecting ever since. I didn't have a Sindy as a girl, just a 'Debbie Doll' bought in a chemist. She was a great disappointment to me... she contained talcum powder and had no legs- just a bottle shaped lower half. I made my own clothes for her by learning to knit and sew, she couldn't wear trousers, or short skirts and it was all quite limiting. I am glad I learned to make my own things for her, I'm not too bad at sewing and creating, skills that I would not learned if I had own a real Sindy and some outfits. I gert so much pleasure from finding and buying the 1963 to 1973 dolls and clothes. I love the vintage fabrics and I mend and repair the clothes as an affordable way of collecting. I am a Kindergarten Teacher and have 4 children, it's good to have a hobby that I can enjoy from home. No Sindy groups or web sites in NZ as far as I know. I know a couple of other collecters online after buying through our ebay equivalent, Trade Me. Apparently Sindy was made in NZ at some time. I would love to start something up here for NZ collectors to access and share. Thank you for being there to connect with and share from so far away. Sue

Hello and welcome! The story with your "doll" from your childhood is very touching! Do you still have her? I would like to see her, she must be a very special girl, she was a muse for you!

Hi Sue and I am a kiwi living in Holland. I got my first Sindy in the '60's when I was a child in New Plymouth. I also have Paul. Sindy, Patch and Paul were released in the '60's in New Zealand. There was also a Mary Poppins Sindy released in New Zealand as well. I do remember her and really wanted her but of course didn't get her. Instead I have sewn a Mary Poppins oufit for my Sindy. It would be great if you could start something up in NZ for Sindy as I think you are right - there is next to no info about Sindy in NZ. You should also take a peek at the Sindy museum site. Full of loads of Sindy info. I remember those talcum powder dolls. I had a Barbie one. She was dressed as a bride and I couldn't dress her in anything else either. In the end she got thrown out. Regret that now of course. I also mend and repair a lot of Sindy clothes as they are usually worn and damaged from too much play but it is always a challenge to get them back in good condition again. I think you will enjoy this forum. xxx ps. my brother lives in Onehunga and mum is still in NP. Have been going back home annually the last few years..................

Hi Sue welcome, I think the things we didn't have as a child shape us as much as the things we did have. I also loved to make clothes for my Sindy, which led on to making clothes for myself as a teenager, I now am lucky enough to design clothes for a living. I started collecting Sindy again just a couple of 7-8 weeks ago and have started knitting again. I have just looked into getting an overlocker today and a new sewing table. Hobby becomes career become hobby again- its great!! Have fun. Brigidx

Hi Sue, I don't think Sindy could have been very popular in NZ and Australia, as quite a large chunk of my collection has gone down under My Sindys have been very happy to emigrate. Welcome to the forum. Speak soon, Jill x
