...and yet I couldn't not look the trailers either, Carl The preview screening was brilliant. It was a themed event with most of the cast and crew present. What makes me giggle, looking back, is the memory of seeing one shy looking actor who I didn't recognise at the time. I now know he plays the leader of the Casuals / bike gang. He looks a lot less menacing (and very good looking ) in real life, bless. The director was lovely and had time for anyone who stopped him to chat or sign things, after the screening. Last nights episode...! I was well and truly shocked at the ending, even though it was obvious what was going to happen the second Trev entered the room. I've read that most things in TIE/TIE'86 are based on events from director's past. I hope that if this horriffic event was one of them, 'Trev' (and at least one other person) is now OK... Last night's Alan Davies show (the repeat) was interesting for a number of reasons. He interviewed Norman Tebbit, funny viewing. The Road to Coronation Street! I was going to start a thread about it earlier today, spooky! Briiliant programme, wish we could see more of the story, filmed this way. Everyone was really well cast. I expected it to be a bit more confusing than it actually was to see people like Jessie Wallace (and one other, the secretary, I forget her name) playing parts in this drama. Nice also that they managed to get William Roache's real life son to play the part of young Ken Barlow.

Yeah, I noticed he was cute too - that white boilersuit thing he wears is vile though.

:)That must have been great meeting the cast and director Jane. Yes you can see that the actor who plays the leader of the bike gang is good looking despite as been said the hidious white boiler suit thing. The character is typical of that big headed, thinks he's gods gift variety though, you couldnt imagine him being shy in reality though he is in character for the programme.
It was Michelle Holmes who played the secretary in Road to Corro. She was barmaid Tina in Corrie years ago and also played Nicholas Lyndhurst wife in Goodnight Sweetheart and was one of the cheeky 80's schoolgirls in the 80's rough comedy film Rita and Sue and Bob Too. Jessie Wallace was great as Pat Pheonix, especially as we are used to seeing her as a cockney rather than a lancashire lass.
I've been reading much of the stuff regarding TIE and the 86 and yes all from the directors experiences of growing up. I think Shauns character in the film was very much based on the directors own very young days hanging around with older skinheads. I've a feeling its all going to blow up big time next week for the final now Combo is back on the scene worse for wear and it looks like Trev tells Lol what her Dads done to her. The actors are good to play the baddie characters when they are probably very decent in reality. I used to watch Shameless when it first ever came on and have watched bits since but i cant compare it with TIE86 somehow.

I didn't meet the cast as such (didn't stop anyone to chat or sign anything) but I tried to see how many actors I recognised (from a distance). I think the only actors I didn't spot were the ones who play Banjo, Meggy and Mr. Sandhu. These people I already recognised from TIE.
Weirdly enough, the actor who plays Flip (the gang leader) looks younger and smaller (and better dressed!) in real life. I saw him wandering around before the screening, chatting with some other actors I already recognised and wondered if he was cast or crew. So it was funny to see him playing such a loud, aggressive (but funny) idiot, up on screen.
Piecing together things I have read in interviews with Shane Meadows and Vicky McLure, plus what's shown in the trailers, I think I can guess some of what's going to happen next week.
I'd forgotten Michelle Holmes was in those things (have seen and like both). I've watched Coronation Street here and there over the years and I just about remember Ena Sharples, Elsie Tanner and Annie Walker. It was great seeing these characters again in The Road to Coronation Street. It was funny to see how everyone got their part and strange to think the show almost didn't happen at all.

:)It really was a dramatic ending wasn't it. You know if it does get made in a few years time set in the 90's i cant see it somehow working quite the same with nostalgic magic. I think this may start to dissappear if it moves closer to present day. Though it could be the older (young) characters trying to hold further onto their youth rather than responsibility.

I am so glad they didn't show all four episodes on preview screening night. Most people would have left the place in tears or shock.
The next series is supposed to be set in 1990. From what little I've heard I reckon the series could be a good one.
The older characters in TIE86 would still only be in their late twenties, so not too old to have taken part in rave culture of the time. At a guess, it'll probably be the younger characters we see enjoying or taking part in this scene. Everyone older than Woody & Lol, we'll probably see how they are coping with marriages and mortgages (and the fall out from darker storylines).
It'll be interesting to see what happens.

:)I think you are probably spot on here Jane with the 1990 predictions. I can see the characters being involved in the rave culture. Shauns character would be about my age as i left school at 16 in 1986, so in 1990 i was only 20, 21 in the November. I wasnt involved in the rave culture as my teens and early 20's were far removed from that, but the characters from TIE most likely would have evolved to this.
It as also much like the film been left with an ending for future storyline, as obviously there will be fallout and how the characters have evolved from 86. It could be interesting and i guess is still a nostalgia trip, i forget that 1990 is twenty years ago. I'm 41 in November. Where did the years go?
