I used to watch fame and thought it was great at the time. I really fancied Bruno, he was so intense and moody. Not sure I could watch it now though without thinking it was really corny.

:)I loved it too. I like the one with the long hair and fringe, cant remember her name now. Was she Julie?
I'd watch it again. I think i heard that the remake doesnt have the same charm as these things seldom do when remade.

I think I was a little bit too old when Fame started. It just used to make me cringe, but I know my two younger cousins loved it, my mum bought them leg warmers as they used to like them. I had legwarmers, but used them to go to work in on cold morns. I think Fame coincided with my punk phase - that wouldnt work would it!

Hey!! We keep bumping into each other! LOL. I remember Fame, but more for watching the film than the series. I liked Coco, she was fab! I used to "play" fame in the back garden lots too. Went to see the live musical a few years ago, it was good, but not the film if you know what I mean. Is the new film any good? Your daughter has good taste, Glee is amazing! I'm an official G-Leek! =) xx

I loved Fame!!I saw three Fame annuals in a second hand shop last week but was skint at the time.If they are still there this week I will pick them up for you as a treat!Bet there will be a few laughs in there.I also have the Fame annuals kicking around somewhere.I think I played Hi Fidelity and Starmaker into the ground! My cousin went to see them live in the early 80s when they did their live show. She said they were fab.I was so jealous!I loved Leroy. He was such a fab dancer. Also the original Fame film was amazing. It was so gritty and if I rememberrightly one of the first films to tackle being gay.I thought they did it brilliantly, showing all sides.

Yeah I think you're right about tackling the gay thing, and also they did the child molesting story where Raoul's sister gets raped if I remember it properly. It was a good film. I love the soundtrack, although I can't make out the proper words sometimes and have to make them up...... LOL! xxx

Oh yes I remember Fame! Can remember the theme tune and the opening sequence where they were all dancing over the cars outside the school. I remember buying the book which also covered controversial issues (rape, wild sex, abortions etc) and was prob too old for me at the time. Made me wish I could sing, dance or play music unfortunately I can't do any of them.

Hello. I loved Fame. I thought the film was much darker than the series. I am sure that in the film Julie got pregnant by Leroy, but it was so long ago I am not 100% on that. I had the record too. One of my first. The teachers now on old clips I have seen look young to me, which at the time I would never have thought of, (not that I thought they looked particulary old!) identifying with the younger mob as I did. Remember that "If you want fame, then fame costs, and right here is where you start paying" comment by the dance teacher? Wasn't her name Lydia? I saw a comic sketch of that somewhere and they all start handing over pound notes to her afterwards. Tickled me. Remember Leroy always erupting and winding up the dance teacher. Wasn't there a lot of conflict in it now I come to think of it! Strong memories.
love kathryn.

Hello. I loved Fame. I thought the film was much darker than the series. I am sure that in the film Julie got pregnant by Leroy, ove kathryn. Yes in the book they were always getting extra sweaty on the dance floor and she wouldn't go on the pill in case she put on a couple of pounds. Then she had an abortion without telling anyone and had the mental trauma of dealing with it all alone. It stuck in my mind as it didn't happen in the series so it came as a bit of a shock to me.

Ahhh, Fame! Thursday nights, 1982 = Top of the Pops and then Fame, great tv double bill!
Have any of you seen this Foo Fighters video, inspired by Fame? Gave me a giggle at the time!
as did the Children in Need version of the Fame title sequence:

Ooo, I'll have a look at those later Jane (when my computer's properly fixed - it keeps 'sticking')! I was Fame mad in the 80's too and co-incidentally I've been watching a few clips and episodes on Youtube recently just to bring back memories! I had a HUGE crush on Danny and my two best friends loved Bruno (I think, after watching a re-union show - my guys aged slightly better ;D)! I did loose interest in the show after about the third series though. I recently watched the episode where Danny had leukemia (ha ha - shouldn't laugh but he got leukemia, was persuaded to receive treatment, didn't loose his hair or anything, carried on being the lead in a show, and was offered a life-saving bone marrow operation all in the space of a few weeks)!!! Thankfully I don't have any first hand knowledge of leukemia, but I'm sure from diagnoses to 'all clear' would take longer than that? What about those other memorable episodes and songs - Doris's 'Wizard of Oz' dream, the 'Drink Driving' one, 'Mannequin', 'Step Up To The Mike', 'Life Is A Celebration' and Sho-sho-sho-Shrofsky'!!!! ;D Great days! Love Susan x

Love Susan x You're in for a treat, Susan. The band and the bbc peeps got the Fame thing down to a tee. I haven't seen the show since the 80's. Keen to watch a few old eps, now! I was about 10 when Fame was most popular. I don't remember any storylines but can remember lots of random singing and dancing scenes (the best part for me back then lol) and the show being lighthearted fun. I saw the film on tv around the same time and was surprised at how different it was to the tv series (like a lot of you have already said). I remember the real life fashions made popular by the show. I had legwarmers and a sweatshirt material ra ra dress. It's been a strange experience seeing those items being worn again, these past few years ;D Not by me, I'll add...! It's too young a look for me now lol

Yep, Leroy gets her pregnant, she goes for an abortion at a posh clinic and sits at the bottom of a large marble staircase weeping about it all. Leroy doesn't want to know her after that.....can you tell I'm a bit of a fan?! LOL!! xxx
