I love Hammer house of horror. I used to stay at my mammar and grandads. And I would stay up with my mammar and watch all the old horrors. I was only little. lol I got away with murder. I remember watching one hammer house about CATS. And the ending the man said "whats a matter cats got your tongue?" And actually the cats had eaten the tongue. I remember being cuddled up to my grandad with a cup of tea and the biscuit tin. How I wish I could go back in time.

Yes Bronnie the old Hitchcock movies are pretty scary. I remember watching the Birds when i was young and that was creepy too. There's another film - not sure of the title. May be a hitchcock but it's a 60s movie where a husband trys to convince his wife she's going insane and he follows her in the fog and then disappears when she looks round, stuff like that. That's scary again because it's plausible. Anyone know which film I mean?

HA HA Oh How true that film could be, I had a similar experience with my brother, IT was funny though.

I agree, Halloween was rubbish for scary films. Got my fix from Halloween 2 on bbc1, but thats about it!!! Does anyone remember the prog on bbc1 on Halloween, around 10 years ago, (cant remember what it was called now) with Mike Smith and Sarah Greene on. They were checking out a haunted house with the family there, all these spooky things were happening. Was supposed to be genuine but then it came out the next day that it was a wind up!!! That had me convinced until the end when Sarah got dragged under the stairs by 'something' and Mikes reaction wasnt what I expected from a loving husband, he just sort of looked and shouted to her. I would have been going crackers, lol.... I agree Zoe, bring back our youth and the Hammer House of Horror, I used to love staying up for that... Sigh....
Love Sam...xxx

I had to think about this cos my mum used to make me sit up and watch all those black and white horrors when I was a kid cos she was to scared to watch them alone. My dad thought evil dead was a comedy.
Carrie was the scariest film I have ever seen. I revisited it with friends when I was 19 and the bit where the hand comes out of the grave scared the jibbles out of us and we couldnt sleep for the rest of the night.
goriest was brain damage - i think its a new zealand peter jackson film from the early 90's I saw it at the cinema which had red curtains and there is a scene where they start taking the zombies out with a lawnmower and i remember thinking I cant see where the screen ends and the curtains begin for all the red. haha
I do love a good horror. My hubbie is a sooky la la. so are my friends come to think of it so I never get to watch them any more. I will make my son watch them with me when he is old enough.

Sam & Liz,
'Ghostwatch'! That scared the pants off my when I was younger!!! I just remember a bit where it panned round a room and there was this scary figure just standing there. Yikes!!! Didn't the BBC get loads of complaints about it? Would love to see the DVD again, I bet it's really tame now.

Liz and Ineke, Thanks for reminding me of the name. Didnt know you could get it on dvd either, may have to have a nose around for it. I remember the scary figure now and the bbc getting complaints, some people are so boring, lol!!! The hand bit in Carrie freaked me out for weeks too, he he.

Great thread! I think The Omen was pretty scary as the little boy in it freaked me out! Also the scene where the priest gets killed by the church spire is awful! I remember my Dad letting me watch a Hammer House of Horror film once when I was about 6 and it had a little girls birthday party in it. There was a table of food and the mother was running a bath upstairs. The bath overspilled and started seeping through the floor onto the table, but it started to turn into blood! It scared the life out of me! Think Dad made me go to bed after that! Can't remember what that film was called! Cheers Janee xx

They still show them on ITV 3 I watched one the other week , this man was dreaming alot of the time but you never knew when he was dreaming or not lol...in the end he killed his wife and thought he was having a wild affair with his secretary...the affair was a dream but he murdered his wife for real! Hammer house always freaks me out

I have an aversion to most horror films - they had the power to scare the pants off me when young and srill have the power ro give me nightmares after watching these days, but it was The Pit and The Pwndulum and The Fall of the House of Usher that scared me most or should I say Vincebt Price scared the bejesus outta me, followed by Anton Differing in The Man Who Could Cheat Death.
I have managed to sit through The Pit twice recently but not The Man WHo Could....

Hi Janee, I think the hammer film you mention was 'The House that Dripped Blood'. I used to like those 'Tales from the Crypt' type films with lots of little horror stories. I think there's one over Xmas with some people who get trapped in a lift and have to relive their stories etc.
There used to be a prog on in the mid-late 70s on a Saturday night called 'Thriller' - that was very much along the lines of Hammer films. Anyone remember it?
I watched the Omen remake the other night and didn't think it as good as the original.
