I'm not sure how many know of the japanese anime One Piece? It's my favourite and I'm slowly making all my favourite characters from it made with either Volks or Obitsu (or a mixture of both) custom edit kits. I've so far made 10 dolls and one small plush ^__^
I've hand rooted all their hair, painted their faces and made all their costumes by hand.
I'm hoping to have reasonable success with my first actual "reroot" when I start on my Funtime Sindy. I'm not sure if it will be easier as there's already holes, or harder because you're following something that already exists!!
